The race for the title of Africa’s strongest football club is in full swing, and on April 18, fans will learn who will fight in the final.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Espérance de Tunis

Last year, the Brazilians stopped one step short of the trophy, losing 3-2 to Pyramids in the final. This season, they are closer than ever to their dream. Especially since many top African football teams, including the reigning champions, have already been eliminated from the competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns started the semi-final tie with a 1-0 victory at Espérance’s ground. Brayan León scored the only goal, his fourth in the current campaign. The Colombian now has every chance of surpassing Trézéguet in the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot.

This season, the Brazilians have one of the best attacks, having scored 15 goals in 9 matches – the best record among all teams in the CAF Champions League semi finals 2026.

Despite losing the first leg, Espérance aren’t going to give up and will do their utmost to reach the final again after a 6-year hiatus. The Blood and Golds aren’t afraid of big names, as they proved in the quarter-finals by beating Al Ahly (4-2 on aggregate) – the 12-time CAF Champions League winners and the most successful club in African football history.

Nothing is certain in this tie yet, and fans are in for an exciting football thriller.

RS Berkane vs AS FAR

The Moroccan derby CAF Champions League at such a late stage is one of the biggest surprises. In the quarter-finals, AS FAR beat Pyramids, the reigning champions, on aggregate. The secret to Les Militaires’ success lies in their solid defense – they’ve conceded only 4 goals in 9 games.

RS Berkane comfortably made it through the group stage with 10 points and defeated Al Hilal from Omdurman in the quarter-finals. The Orange Boys are dangerous both in positional play and on the counterattack, and their left winger, Mounir Chouiar, is capable of single-handedly turning any match around.

The first episode of the derby ended in a victory for AS FAR, but RS Berkane are ready to stage a comeback in front of their home fans.

Who will win?

Given the results of the first legs, Mamelodi Sundowns and AS FAR appear to be the favorites, but the magic of the CAF Champions League and packed stands are an X-factor that could turn the tide.
